Wildflowers

When the spring sunshine arrives in Bunbury the landscape responds, heralding the change of season with the emergence of colourful displays of wildflowers. Visit Manea Park, Maidens Reserve and the Tuart Forest between September and November to see the vivid hues of our floral display.

Wildflower Watch

Katherine Chauhan Reserve

Location: Corner Parade Road and Guile Fawy

This quiet Reserve has a wonderful display of wildflowers including; mignonettes, pink fairy orchids, kangaroo paws, wattle, purple tassels, milk maids, blue squill, running postman, cotton heads, false boronia, buttercup bush and salt and pepper bush.

As there are no sealed paths or tracks through this Reserve please take care when walking through the area.

Manea Park

Location: Winthrop Avenue, College Grove

Take the Pultenaea Loop walk trail to see kangaroo paws, blue squill, slender sun orchids, blue enamel orchids, running postman, common buttercup bush, milk maids, salt and pepper bush, hibbertia and mignonettes.

Tuart Walk

Location: Southern end of Ocean Drive

Wander on the sealed walkway between Bunbury and Dalyellup and see pink fairy orchids, donkey orchids, purple tassels, false boronia, cotton heads, common buttercup bush, blue squill and hibbertia.

Crooked Brook Forest

Location: Crooked Brook Forest Road, Dardanup

Along the sealed walkway at the picnic area see a large display of white bearded heath, yellow candles, wattle, blue sun orchids, running postman, buttercup bush, blue hovea bush, pink myrtle, hakea,  cocky’s tongue and hibbertia.

Maidens Reserve

Location: Ocean Drive, Bunbury

See hibbertia, climbing hovea, purple tassels and false boronia along the Peppermint trail or the Coastal Walk trail.

Please note that the names of the wildflowers given in this report are common names and not scientific names.

Please do not pick the wildflowers. The potential impact of this can be quite devastating to populations of some species that require the setting of seed for regeneration. Help conserve our unique and wonderful wildflowers for future generations.
